New Haven Farms is a nonprofit organization that promotes health and community development through urban agriculture.
We transform vacant lots in New Haven’s under-resourced neighborhoods into productive farms sites, providing fresh organically grown produce and wellness education for low income families struggling with chronic diet related illnesses. Our seven farm sites have grown into active community spaces, catalyzing community level change and long term public health improvements across the city of New Haven.
Established in 2012 New Haven Farms grew out of the Fair Haven Community Health Care’s renowned Diabetes Program. Our signature program, the Farm-Based Wellness Program, is a comprehensive health intervention program in which medically referred families receive long term holistic health, nutrition, and cooking education. Our farms and programming build communities of support and comprehensive educational opportunities for individuals to gain agency and live healthier lives.
Through a partnership with the New Haven Land Trust we employ urban youth on the farm. The Growing Entrepreneurs gain career skills, assist with vegetable production, and sell the bounty of our harvest at the neighborhood farm stand, and to local restaurants. We invite you to learn more about our Farm Stand, Youth Programming, and Incubator Garden Program under the programs tab.
